Factors to Consider

Even before you start making cabinetry decisions, it pays to start thinking about what you want from those cabinets. As you begin to plan, be sure to consider the following:

Take a look at what you like and don’t like about your current cabinet configuration. Then ask yourself what you would most like to see changed. This will serve as a good starting point for establishing the type of cabinets that you might want.

In kitchens, some cooks opt to replace some upper cabinets with shelving. Doing so will provide a more open look in your kitchen space.

Think about all the uses you have for the space. Depending on the room, cabinet functions may vary. It’s best to consider what the cabinets will be used for prior to installation. 

Understand that the stained cabinetry is unique and that some stains change color slightly over time. This is a natural part of the aging process.

Darker cabinets can look great in certain homes, but be sure that you have enough lighting to accommodate this type of look.

When you make your cabinet decisions, think about the resale value. Cabinets that match the rest of your home and that provide a more contemporary look are going to add to the value of your home.

Consider which cabinets will store which items before having them installed in your home. This will allow you to be strategic and maximize space once the cabinets are actually installed.
